Autumn has come! Here you'll find some words about this season.
To begin
with, remember that we can use the word autumn
or the word fall (Bristish and
American, respectively.)
It’s during
this season that the plants wither, fade, and eventually die.
To wither
is to become weak and dry. It means
that the plants, in this case, decay.
To fade
means to gradually lose colour and brightness
or strength. And when it comes to
fading, there are different shades (=degrees of a colour). So, we can talk
about yellowish leaves or even reddish ones, depending on the species.
These are the autumn colours. This,
in fact, is the season when the leaves vary from dark green to yellowish-green.All this
sounds quite depressing; however, don’t forget that autumn is the time when
fruits and crops become ready to eat! So, we can always look on the bright
side: it’s time to pick the crops!
